Miha Hafner

Miha Hafner holds an MPhil degree in Criminology from University of Cambridge and a BA degree in Law from University of Ljubljana, where he is currently concluding a PhD programme in Criminal Law. Miha has been a Junior Researcher at the Institute of Criminology at the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana and is presently employed as a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Law. Previously he was also an intern at the Icelandic Human Rights Centre in Reykjavik.

His main research interests revolve around the overlapping fields of neuroscience, psychiatry, and psychology in criminal law and criminology. He explores the impact that these and other biosciences have in criminal law on different levels: in different stages of trial proceedings, decision-making processes, on a status of a defendant, sanctions, other (non)legal consequences, and, overall, defendant’s fundamental rights. On the other hand, Miha is also interested in how the above-mentioned sciences have influenced the field of criminology and how a perception of offenders and delinquents has changed in criminology as well as in society at large in the light of the advancing neurosciences. On these and some other issues Miha has authored and co-authored a number of articles and chapters in monographs.
